SOCHUM is one of the main GA committees which was established in 1947. The main
purpose of the committee organ is to focus on the examination of human rights question and the
promotion of fundamental freedom.

Some issues discussed within SOCHUM include, but are not limited to: human rights,
global literacy, women’s rights, children’s rights, the treatment of refugees and displaced persons,
international drug control, crime prevention, and the elimination of racism and discrimination.

SOCHUM also works closely with many other UN bodies in order to effectually address its
mandated issues.
Ensure that resolutions are strong enough to affect real change, and moreover, that they are
effectively implemented. This committee is designed for both beginners and experienced delegates.
